Product Description

Marshall Water Bath is an equipment used in material testing, mainly in asphalt testing. Marshall Water Bath aids indetermining the properties of asphalt mixtures, specifically their resistance to deformation under load and their ability to withstand various conditions like traffic loads and temperature changes. The equipment involves in compacting specimen pf asphalt mixture into a cylindrical shape mold and it undergoes a specific compaction force with the use of Marshall compaction hammer. After the compaction process, the sepcimen is removed from the mold and being placed in a Marshall water bath. The specimen is then submerged in water with the specified temperature for a stipulated period of time. This process enables the effects of temperature and moisture on the asphalt mixture.

Features of Marshall Water Bath

  • Temperature Controlensuring consistent testing conditions as per specified standards.
  • Durable Construction that withstands the rigors of asphalt testing environments, ensuring longevity and reliability.
  • Safety Featuressuch as temperature alarms and protective enclosures to ensure operator safety during testing.
  • Compact Designallows for easy integration into laboratory setups, maximizing space efficiency.

Standard: ASTM D1559, BS 598-107, AASHTO T245, DIN 1996

  • ASTM D1559 (American Standard)

This method focuses on evaluating the ability of bituminous mixtures, commonly used in road construction, to resist deformation under load.

  • BS598-107 (British Standard)

It dissect the method for determining the Marshall stability and flow values of bituminous mixtures. This standard provides specific procedures for conducting tests using the Marshall apparatus, including compaction methods and conditions. It also showcases the acceptance criteria of assessing the stability and flow of properties of asphalt mixtures, making sure it meets the standard requirements for the usage of road construction projects.

  • AASHTO T245 (American Standard)

This standard outlines the procedure for determining the resistance to plastic flow of bituminous mixtures using the Marshall apparatus. It is widely used in the United States for quality control and assurance in road construction projects.

  • DIN 1996 (German Standard)

This standards related to structural engineering and construction. It covers the overview of planning and execution of construction work, including building construction, foundation design, and structural design standards. While DIN standards are comprehensive and cover a wide range of subjects, including materials used in construction, specific standards related to asphalt mixtures or Marshall testing might have different reference numbers within the DIN framework.

Test Procedure

  1. Prepare Specimens: After compacting asphalt mixtures into cylindrical molds using a Marshall compaction hammer, remove the specimens from the molds.
  2. Set Up Water Bath: Fill the Marshall water bath with water at a specified temperature, typically between 25C to 30C (77F to 86F). The temperature may vary depending on testing standards and specifications.
  3. Submerge Specimens: Place the cylindrical specimens in the water bath immediately after removal from the molds. Ensure that the specimens are fully submerged in the water.
  4. Soak Specimens: Allow the specimens to soak in the water bath for a specified duration, typically around 30 to 60 minutes. Again, the exact duration may vary based on testing standards.
  5. Remove and Drain Specimens: After the soaking period, removethe specimens carefully from the water bath and allow excess water to drain off.
  6. Test Stability and Flow: Perform stability and flow tests on the specimens according to the Marshall test procedure. This typically involves applying a compressive load to the specimens and measuring the stability (maximum load) and flow (deformation) under load.
  7. Record Results: Record the stability and flow values obtained from the tests. These values provide important information about the performance of the asphalt mixture under specific conditions.
  8. Repeat: Repeat the procedure for each specimen tested, following the same protocol to ensure consistency and accuracy of results.
